Job Overview

JOB SUMMARY: The Psychiatrist is responsible for performing a designated blend of administrative and clinical responsibilities consistent with Catholic Charities’ high ethical standards, regulations, corporate compliance, targeted performance metrics and CCB’s Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) processes, activities and initiatives.


  • Exemplifies and promotes clinical and administrative service delivery with high ethical standards and regulations, consistent with Catholic Charities of Buffalo (CCB), New York State OMH/OMM/OASAS, NYS DOH, the NYS Justice Center and the Council on Accreditation standards, policies and procedures;
  • Directly evaluates, diagnoses and treats an assigned caseload of adult and youth mental health and chemical dependency clients and promptly documents all services performed;
  • Provides psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis of referred clients at assigned clinics;
  • Provides ongoing medication management/assessment for assigned clients;
  • Provides medication education to assigned clients and their families;
  • Completes all progress notes related to assigned clients within 24 hours of activity;
  • Documents all client encounters, risk concerns and critical incidents in the medical record, consistent with agency, State and Council on Accreditation standards;
  • Provides consultation and psycho-education to families and collateral others;
  • Promptly completes documented (via signature/notation) reviews of psychosocial assessments, treatment plans and disability evaluations;
  • Monitors and provides consultation with respect to the treatment services provided by clinic social work/mental health clinicians;
  • Monitors medications prescribed by other healthcare professionals;
  • In concert with other personnel and physicians, responds to and resolves service, access and provider concerns/issues;
  • Collaborates and consults with other service providers and MCOs as necessary (i.e. inpatient psychiatrists, primary care providers and Licensed Clinical Social Workers);
  • Provides emergency/crisis consultation during non-regular work hours;
  • Arranges for coverage when not available to respond to emergencies/crises
  • Perform other related duties and/or other projects as needed.



  • D. with license to practice medicine in New York State;
  • Board certified, or eligible, in psychiatry

Specify Special Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders;
  • Demonstrated expertise in treating those diagnosed with chemical dependency;
  • Strong general knowledge of medical conditions, medications and medication interactions.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years’ experience in the direct assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders and chemical dependency.
